Wiki-scratch that

Monday, July 10th, 2006

So much for that whole Wikipedia idea. Apparently Zelda Comic isn’t notable enough for them. Maybe it’s just me, but it sure is odd using a criteria as subjective as “notability” for an encyclopedia. Doesn’t the sheer size of the Internet and the number of users on it at any given moment mean that a reasonable amount of people will find anything notable (and for that matter, non-notable)? That link gives you the option to argue for the article’s being kept, but I’m not going to push any of you to do so. It seems an awful lot like they’ve already made the decision anyway. Sigh.

The rude comments in that page were a bit unnecessary, methinks. Was it so wrong to get excited about someone finding my comic sufficiently notable to be included on a renowned site like Wikipedia?

“I, am, Job. I, am, Job!”

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

What, you need a better reason for not updating? How about the fact that I’m moving two hours away, and need to devote all my spare time to packing boxes and finding a new job? I thought that was a decent enough reason. Once I get settled in the new place, I fully intend to get back to comic-related activities, but I’m gonna have to place a higher priority on the move for now. I’ll let you know how it all goes once it’s all said and done. Have you checked out the forums? They’re a great place to talk to fellow comic fans about all sorts of things, like, say, Snakes on a Plane! AND NOTHING ELSE.

Samus and Peach walk into a bar…

We made it to Davis alive! No new Zelda Comic just yet, but I did make a belated submission to The Orange Belt Sprite Comic Contest. I figured it would be a good way to warm up by actually devoting a few neurons to the creative process, and I was right! I feel the creative juices flowing! Or at least trickling. Keep an eye on this site for a Monday update, we’ll see if one actually shows up or not.

Hourly Comics SaturDay

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

So there’s this guy named John Campbell, and last year he started the day of Hourly Comics, once a year on February 1st. The only annoying thing is, I had to work both last year and this year on that day! It’s not always easy to pull yourself away from troubleshooting kids’ computers or fixing old peoples’ iMacs so they can use Eudora again, so I missed out both times. Luckily, we came up with a solution: we’ve been holding our own hourly comic day today, and putting up our efforts on the forum. You can see the rest of my comics in the appropriate thread. It may even include me working on the next Zelda Comic, once I deem it the appropriate time to do so. I went to Target today! There were no turtles.

You’re the man now, doge!

Thanks to takeru for linking these to me. Seems that the batshit insane folks (I say that with the utmost affection) at YTMND have thrown together a small collection of NES cover songs created with Windows XP error sounds. A few of them feature Zelda Comic cast members! Go check out their takes on songs from Zelda IIKid Icarus and Bubble Bobble (my favorite of the bunch). It should go without saying that these may not be safe for work, as they’re from YTMND and therefore feature endless repeating soundtracks.

I finished my comic on time again! I’ll be putting it up Sunday night, as is the norm. Man, it feels weird saying that.

Stand By

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Please do not read too much horrible portent into this. I was out of town this weekend, and was unable to get a comic done in time for a Sunday night/Monday morning release. I’ll be working on and hopefully finishing the next episode some time after work today. Thank you for your understanding and infinite patience. After all, you’ve put up with months of non-updating, so what’s another day? Huh?

…Huh?

Wooden Silverware!

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

I’ve finished updating the rest of the site probably! Let me know if I missed any important pages. Oh, and deku12345 on the forums pointed out to me that he got some weird malware error from his browser when he visited one of the archived GameRoom pages, so you should either make sure you won’t get infected (whether by using a Mac or the appropriate malware-blocking tools) or not visit the page. It didn’t seem to come up with any other pages, so it’s probably a bad popup or banner on that page. I had a lot of problems with those ads back in the day, which is why I was so happy to move on to other sites. The GameRoom Zelda Comic page (which I recently discovered was still up and running, and still high up on the Google search results) now redirects to zeldacomic.net, so hopefully no one will have to deal with their crappy ads anymore.

Movin’ On Out (Movin’ On Out)!

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Sorry about the latest in an ongoing series of delays. We’re in the process of packing up boxes to move to a new apartment, hopefully one that doesn’t have a gaping hole in the ceiling for water to pour down through whenever it rains! Wish us luck! I should be back in business some time next week.

Announcements! Wonderful glorious announcements!

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Yes there will be more comics. Yes it will be soon. No I didn’t die. Yes I’m tired of making reports like this without content to back them up. But worry not, I didn’t come and make a post here just to kill time, I have an announcement to make! Zelda Comic is now a proud member of the Zelda Dungeon Alliance!

Quite frankly, it’s been a long time since I had much interest in the online Zelda communities. I used to be hosted by one of the more prominent Zelda information sites (which has since changed ownership a few times; I doubt any of the handful of folks I knew there are still around), but mostly I was tired of coming across the same old walkthroughs and collections of in-game imagery. Uniqueness is certainly not a quality I’d generally apply to most Zelda-centric sites. Why, then, did I decide to affiliate my comic with Zelda Dungeon, after turning down so many affiliation offers over the years? Because the intent of the Zelda Dungeon Alliance is to showcase a collection of Zelda websites offering unique content! The hope is that this will help strengthen ties in the Zelda community, and since I hate the sprite comic community (to everyone in the sprite comic community reading this: I kid! I kid ’cause I love!), I figured this was a great way to increase readership and show off my Zelda-lovin’ roots. I’m really excited at the prospect of this teaming-up, and I advise everyone to go check out what Zelda Dungeon has to offer, as well as my fellow allies.

To everyone who came here from Zelda Dungeon: welcome! Feel free to read through the archives, and please forgive the somewhat lacking quality of the older episodes. ^__^ They get better as you go, I promise. I’ve registered on your forums (username mario), so feel free to say hi to me as we pass on the eSidewalk or whatever. I’m far more likely to be at my own forums on The Orange Belt though, if you’re trying to track me down. See you somewheres? Yes!

To Mases: I updated my 88×31 banner. It’s now current site design-compliant! So feel free to toss it up on the Allies section at your earliest convenience. And let me know what banner you’d like me to use for the Zelda Dungeon link. I’m still deliberating how I want to incorporate the link in my page design, but I figured I’d toss something up there in the interim and actually act like I’m part of some kind of alliance or something. Communicating to a single person through news updates readable by everybody sure is efficient, isn’t it?

Wow, it has been awhile, hasn’t it? I picked up and love love LOVE Smash Bros. Brawl. If anyone’s looking for friends to battle with, my fellow forumites and I have been putting our friend codes up for all to grab. Register for the forum and post your own, and we can duke it out! I have a special affinity toward R.O.B. and Mr. Game & Watch, but I switch it up often, so don’t come into a battle expecting to track down my super-secret character selection pattern (Game & Watch, R.O.B., Sonic, Pit, Link… or is it???). And if you do register for the forum, try and be some kind of awesome community participant too! That would rock hard.

To all you wonderful people, friends old and new alike: there is more to come. Stay tuned.

Link does the Caramelldansen!

Monday, March 31st, 2008

(In theory, actual comic updates will appear here in due time. My current goal is to upload something archive-worthy by next Monday)

A little gift from my friend Brian, who got me irrevocably hooked on the Caramelldansen fad (YTMND links, as always, are NSFW due to excessive noise and general silliness). Open that link in the background and watch Link and Navi dance along to the music!

He says he’ll make me more once I get some comics out. That may not matter to any of you, but I’ll take any motivation I can get!
